5 Steps To Reading A Sewing Pattern
1. Read all sides of the sewing envelope before you begin. The front shows pictures of the finished products. The back usually has sizing measurements and required materials.
2. Open up the envelope and remove all of the patterns and other papers enclosed. Choose the project you want to make and find all of the pattern pieces for the project. You can find all pieces by noticing which letter the project is.
3. Read the key included with your patterns. This will usually explain what the symbols on the patterns mean. For example, a line with a triangle on both ends represents the grain line.
4. Cut out the pattern according to the key. To cut out a certain size, cut along its size line.
5. Locate the step-by-step directions included. Follow along carefully. There will usually be diagrams with each step.
